DIY Foot Scrub

Updated: Apr 1, 2023

Foot scrubs are so simple to make.

Anyone can make a foot scrub

using basic ingredients, you will

find in your kitchen.

Our first recipe is for a Peppermint foot scrub, which is easy to make however, it does require purchasing one or two ingredients you may not already have at home.

Our second recipe is a very simple foot scrub, that anyone can make from home using ingredients you are likely to have in your cupboard.

DIY Peppermint foot Scrub

Ingredients:

50g Shea Butter

20g Coconut Oil

30g Sweet Almond Oil

100g Salt (I like to use fine)

3g Peppermint Essential oil

Method:

1. Sterilise all equipment

2. Add shea butter to a *double boiler on a low heat until melted

3. Next add the coconut oil until melted

4. Add the sweet almond oil and mix for 30 seconds

5. After 30 seconds remove from heat

6. Put your liquid mixture into the fridge or freezer until the texture resembles a thick custard consistency (30 minutes in the freezer or 4 hours in the fridge)

7. Remove from the fridge/freezer and add your peppermint essential oil and salt

8. Mix together and add to a container

Directions:

Best used in the evenings before bed. Massage the scrub into your feet and rinse with water. The body butter and oil will remain on your feet so you can apply socks and sleep in them to let it soak in. When you wake up your feet will be nice and smooth.

Very basic DIY foot scrub

Ingredients:

100g coconut oil (or any other oil you have at home)

100g Salt

Method:

Mix the coconut oil and salt together. If the coconut oil is hard you may need to warm it up first.

You can use any oil plus salt or sugar to make a very basic foot scrub, however if you are using an oil that does not go hard at room temperature you will need to mix the oil and salt each time you use it. Hard oils like coconut oil will work better.

Notes:

1. It is important to use sterilised equipment to avoid any bacteria growing in your product.

2. You can make a simple * double boiler by filling a saucepan up with an inch of water, add your heatproof bowl to the water. If you do not have the facilities for a double boiler you can melt the oils in the microwave, however a double boiler is more effective as you can control the heat.

3. You do not have to add essential oils, this part is optional

Substitutes:

Peppermint Essential Oil can be substituted for any essential oil of your choice.

Sweet Almond Oil can be substituted for any oil of your choice.

Salt can be substituted for another ingredient such as sugar or coffee

Important note: All these recipes are free from preservatives to keep them 100% natural. This means if they get any water in them, they will start to spoil after 24 hours. To prevent them from spoiling you must avoid getting any water into the product.
